Hardware Engineer
Job Purpose
Integrates and tests opto-electronic systems. Produces hardware designs and modifications by identifying design objectives and issues; researching and developing hardware engineering techniques and approaches; verifying and validating designs; maintaining documentation.
Responsibilities
- Determines hardware engineering design issues by studying product objectives and features; completing functional analyses; analyzing user and potential user input; evaluating similar and related products and systems.
- Develops hardware design plans by researching, analyzing, selecting, and applying hardware engineering concepts approaches, techniques, and criteria involving system-level architectural design, floor planning, board circuits, etc.; adapting and modifying design and engineering options; preparing diagrams; entering schematics; collaborating with related engineering design teams; evaluating components, materials, and suppliers; determining and establishing specifications.
- Verifies system-level performance by establishing reliability, maintainability, and durability test standards; testing virtual prototypes including logic insertion and timing analysis; developing test plans for field validations by customers; building simulations; performing diagnostic procedures; analyzing test data; identifying, isolating, and resolving design problems.
- Documents hardware design by recording design features, functions, operational requirements, and warnings; detailing support requirements.
- Maintains engineering team accomplishments by coordinating actions; obtaining expert input; reviewing open issues and action items; contributing hardware analysis to team meetings and reports.
- Implements engineering design by troubleshooting and resolving production problems related to hardware design.
- Prepares engineering reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data and trends.
- Updates job knowledge by tracking and understanding emerging hardware engineering technologies and practices; participating in educational opportunities and professional organizations; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks.
- Enhances engineering and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
