WeatherBug® Professional to test wind measurement capabilities of Vindicator® LWS

Catch the Wind Ltd. (TSX-V: CTW), developer and manufacturer of the Vindicator® laser wind sensor (LWS) and other wind sensor products, announced today that it has signed a six-month evaluation agreement with AWS Convergence Technologies, owner and operator of the WeatherBug brand of professional and consumer weather products and services.

Through its WeatherBug® Professional division, AWS will install a Vindicator® LWS unit at a to be determined location to test its capabilities for wind speed measurement and wind profiling. WeatherBug Professional offers a comprehensive suite of business solutions powered by the WeatherBug Network, the largest global weather observing network with professional-grade surface and lightning detection stations.

“New market opportunities continue to emerge for our Vindicator, and we are very excited by this trial program,” said Phil Rogers, President and CEO, Catch the Wind. “This innovative project meshes very well with our goal of providing key wind data services to the wind industry. While our primary focus will continue to be on improving the value of wind energy in the renewable energy sector, we believe there is strong applicability for our wind sensing technology to support the delivery of weather services given our ability to provide accurate, far-range measurement of wind speed and direction, particularly in harsh environmental conditions. This latest program application has the potential to provide real-time, precise wind data that can be applied to near term forecasting models used for better energy grid balancing and also for national and global wind mapping for wind resource assessment and energy investment decisions.”

“We look forward to working with Catch the Wind,” said John Bosse, Director of Energy Services for WeatherBug Professional. “The company has developed an innovative technology that can enhance our weather profiling for applications within the wind energy market and beyond. We have a strong presence with the leading energy and utilities companies and will be able to provide an additional benefit to their organizations with boundary layer wind observations that will enhance their wind farm operations, and most notably, improve their short-term wind and power forecasts.”
